Summary/Abstract: Within a few years the Romanian town of Sibiu/Hermannstadt underwent a drastic change of relationship between its German and Romanian ethnicities . This included an increase of interethnic contact as well as changes in self-concept in both ethnic groups. Closely connected to its transnational and global parameters this reciprocal process astonishingly led to a changed self-understanding of both groups. This development promotes a higher degree of social peace and mutual integration whereby ethnic particularism evolves.
