Summary/Abstract: This study shows a situation on the labour market in the European Union in the first years of the XXIst century from the perspective of young people. The paper presents contemporary problems of the age group of 15-29 and relates them to the European families. Their trouble to a great extent results from the global economic downturn. First of all this means the inability to get employed and to provide valuable work in the profession resulting from education. The article is based on an analysis of fundamental measures of the market, which illustrate the level of activity, passivity, employment and unemployment in the group of people becoming adults and beginning their professional career. Moreover, on the basis of statistical data, the paper also discusses the issues of alarming phenomena occurring on the contemporary labour market and generating extremely negative consequences in the socioeconomic life. These issues directly refer to the institutions of the family.
