Polish Academy of Sciences Great Dictionary of Polish as an electronic dictionary

Summary/Abstract: The paper briefly presents the newest general dictionary, the Polish Academy of Sciences Great Dictionary of Polish (Wielki słownik języka polskiego PAN — WSJP) which, being primarily an electronic resource, introduces a series of solutions which set it apart from both paper and digitized editions, as the latter tend to share the limitations of their printed originals. Addressing the needs of the users, WSJP features a hierarchical structure of the elements of the entries, a system of cross-references and links between the entries and advanced search tools. Also the grammatical information is presented in a friendly way as full inflectional paradigms of all declinable parts of speech are given inside entries. The article concludes with a consideration of the possibilities of future development of electronic WSJP.
