Summary/Abstract: Economic globalization has been a much debated phenomenon with consequences at all levels - social, economic, technical, scientific, cultural, every day life, in a word. Linguistic globalization, obvious more and more all over the world, manifested itself by Anglicization or Americanization of most current languages which, at least in what concerns their basic stock of words, allowed English and American loans to enter their vocabulary. The paper tackles the problem of linguistic globalization in Romanian and the reactions of the Romanian linguists and men of letters towards this phenomenon.
