Summary/Abstract: Banská Bystrica was a great centre of activities of women’s groups. These women were either organized by Živena or the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ). The idea of both groups was to improve the position of women in social and political life. Their activities were very similar: theatre performances, courses etc. but there was an eminent contrast of the infl uence of ideology which was very important for the Communist Party. Each single activity of women of the Communist Party was marked with the ideology of Marxism-Leninism. This diff erence made it diffi cult for both women’s groups to cooperate.
