Summary/Abstract: The author attempts to present the garden motif, especially - the flower motif, in the writings of one of the most original Polish poets of the 19th century. In France, as an inheritor of romanticists, Norwid continuously participated in the forming of modernist poetics with their distinctive features like ethical naturalism, prophetism and also negative ontology. In this frame, the garden as a motif seems to be not only infinite space, but also a manufactory, an area of absence and oblivion, and at last - a place of illumination.
