Summary/Abstract: There are two literary languages in use in Norway, the Danish-Norwegian (bokmål) and the New-Norwegian (nynorsk). The latter has been developed from the language(s) of the rural province, and served for rural literary genres until the end of 19th century when the writer Anne Garborg began to use it for urban themes and fighted for its emancipation. The article contains a survey of her literary oeuvre and of the early reception of her works in Hungary.
