Summary/Abstract: Sigmund Freud proved that dreams compose personal remembrance into a special narrative form, but it has been a habit so far to define dreams like a prophecy and to invoke them in ritualistic (folk) circumstances. The article reviews speech about dreams, functions of speech about dreams (biographical and collective), finality and practice approaches to dreams in folk culture from ancient times to the present. The essay contends that when people talk about their dreams, then this act puts them into a social sphere, so the dream becomes part of the individual and narrative identity.
