Summary/Abstract: The paper on the material of the private correspondence of Bedřich Smetana shows that though the letters belong to the manifestations made by writing, they can be characterized by typical spoken-language features – such as spontaneity, emotionality, contact and dialogical features. Therefore they may serve to study the language used for everyday communication.
