Summary/Abstract: The aim of the volume “Case Work and Social Control in the 20th Century” is to bring together researchers from different scientific fields (Social History, Ethnology, Social Work, Psychiatry) and different countries (Hungary, Spain, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia) in order to discuss both the ways of communicating the ideas and practices of case work in Europe, and the role of authors, translators, and practicing social workers who contributed to the spread of these ideas. We aim at comparing case work practices in different social traditions using the rich documentation left by the case workers. The exchange of ideas and practices and the possibility of writing a history of individual social care have been also discussed.
