Summary/Abstract: Fasting in a strict duty for each an every adult, healthy and sensible Muslim man and woman who are aware of their fasting obligation during the month of Ramadan. A sick person, a traveling person, a pregnant or nursing woman, a person doing hard physical work, a menstruating woman or a woman sustaining a post-delivery bleeding are excused from fasting. However, it is their obligation to make up for each day of fasting they missed, once the person no longer sustains the said condition. The ill suffering from difficult, incurable diseases, as well as the old and the feeble are also excused from fasting, but are nevertheless, obliged to pay fidja, a payment in the amount of sadaka for every day of Ramadan.
