The Present Slovene National Assembly Electoral System

Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the Slovene National Assembly electoral system. The work is divided into four parts. The first one takes a look at the electoral system before 2000 and mentions the discusion about election reform. The second chapter describes in detail the contemporary Slovene National Assembly electoral system. The accent is put on nomination, districts, lists, legal treshold, electoral formula and tiers. The third part deals with the Hungarian and the Italian minorities representation. Goal of the last chapter is to analyse the influence of the contemporary voting system on the Slovene party system. In order to evaluate the electoral systems, measures of disproportionality are used.
