Summary/Abstract: Mapping the present of our diary writing customs, already the first marks would, I suspect, lead us off the beaten track. I wonder if the clasped books, spiral note-books, the inviting blank sheets thickly bound in cloth or leather become filled with strokes of pen and reflections to the daily events? Probably not. We hardly use handwriting. But we could not change so much in the anthropological sense that we should not be inspired and tortured by the civilian need to record the fleeting moment.
