Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the relationship between history and justice, which proved to be difficult in the last two centuries, mainly because of the historiographical Rankean tradition. However, especially after the Holocaust, there were important examples of good and mutually advantageous cooperation between the two domains. One of them is the activity of Zentralstelle, the German agency which coordinated the so-called “German Nürnberg” – the trials organized against former Nazis starting with 1958. Zentralstelle could be a useful institutional model for the Romanian Institute for the Investigation of the Communist Crimes, recently inaugurated, as a first concrete step towards a “trial of communism” in Romania.
