Summary/Abstract: Media portrayals in different ways persons with disabilities, and this is not just because of the societal stigma. This article represents a contribution to the representation of people with disabilities theme, from a Romanian perspective and it will help to underline the evolution and the transformation of these representations in a crucial economical period for Romania, the years of socio-economical transition (1991-1999). Enumerative analysis will present the descriptive elements, but also the substance of the article, emphasizing the society’s difficulties and the changing from a negative representation of disability (the impact of disability) to a positive one (the possibility of improving the condition of person with disabilities). The final of the paper will point out the political, social and economical factors which influence the formation of Romanian media social representations of disability.
