Summary/Abstract: Basic in this article is the question about the ethnic identity of the Bulgarian market-gardeners in Hungary. It is treated on the basis of examples taken out from the autobiography of Borislav Ivanov – an ancestral market-gardener born in the town of Szazhalombatta. In the present days he is the only Bulgarian living in the town. The question is actually focused upon the ethnic identity of the Bulgarian market-gardeners in Szazhalombatta and partly in Budapest, as well as of B. Ivanov himself, and is commented in regard with the following markers: name, language, material culture (clothing, market gardening tools and equipment), folklore culture (beliefs, celebrations, rites), religion, place of birth.
