Summary/Abstract: The article presents selected reflections of Janusz Stanislav Pasierb (1929– 1993), a contemporary Polish poet, thinker and a Catholic priest, who analyses of the concept of man, created by Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus. It’s understood as a goal of active development of every individual human and every social community, among which the individual human realizes various predispositions contained in itself. It doesn’t mean that we should understand humanity as a gathering of features, which have to differ human species from other representatives of natural world; it’s rather a task, realization of which takes place in historical process, but not without human liberty’s contribution. According to Erasmus, a man has a liberty of choice between good and evil, thus he can realize his own humanity in harmonious way or he can realize its caricature. The idea of humanity contains certain threads of theological and philosophical tradition, for example the conception of man as a view of God. However Erasmus emphasized the stage character of human being, who is never finished, but is still becoming a man.
