Summary/Abstract: Globalization is a process that is highly dependent on the development of science and education but that also simultaneously affects them. New information technology, without which modern learning, business, and communications in general are inconceivable, is especially significant. This paper presents the major changes in the division of labour and in the labour market. The paper describes the most important consequences of globalization, such as growth of economic and other inequalities, poverty, unemployment, and increased interdependence of economies, cultures, and societies in general, particularly emphasizing the importance of educational systems and their reform. The focus of analysis is educational reform and its impact on individuals and the society. Youth protests around the globe and in societies undergoing transition, such as Serbia, are viewed from a broader perspective. It considers the resistance of young people towards globalization flows and effects, reforms of education, and mass unemployment increased by the current global crisis of capitalism. Finally, the paper reviews the similarities and differences of youth protests throughout the world and in societies in transition.
