Summary/Abstract: Contemporary American fiction seems to be concerned with issues related to how the self could come to terms with itself in a context in which the individual represents the point of convergence of various cultural influences and forces. In ”Erasure”, Percival Everett artistically manages to deconstruct various cultural stereotypes at work in the contemporary society and proposes an artistic solution to the crisis of intercultural communication. Everett sees in art an efficient solution to the crisis of communication in the contemporary world and suggests that art can contribute to wiping out the barriers between individuals belonging to different cultures.
