Summary/Abstract: 1. The micro-semiotic level: strings of DNA as potential Signs A set of three nucleotides (codon) in an open reading frame (ORF) of a coding string of DNA is treated, in our analysis, as a potential Simple Sign, i.e., as a Simple Sign which is not involved at a particular time t in an effective triadic process involving Objects and Interpretants, which is not partaking in effective semiosis, but potentially can do so. In a similar way, we will refer here to a potential Composite Sign.
