Summary/Abstract: The relation between exernal debt and growth is a complex one, with diff erences for developped and developping countries. If in the case of developping countries the relation is a strong negativ and non-liniar one, in the case of developped countries this relation is insignifi cant. We subscribe to the consideration that in the incipient phases of developpment it is necessar an infl ux of foreign capital which can contribue to the acceleration of economic growth process.
