Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the „pedagogical” value of history. Using the example of the communist Gulag in the Slovak society, it shows how societies learn from disasters and crises. Juraj Šuch describes the way in which the myth of the Big Moravia functioned as an ideological model in the national politics of Slovakia in the 20th century.
