Summary/Abstract: Press, radio, ТУ- it can be assumed beyond, any fear of falling into а mistake that these are key words in our contemporary society. The importance of the media institution has for а long time been proved and no one (no matter an ordinary citizen or а scholar) will question it. But even this „mediocracy’’ that we live in has its real dimensions and limits. Scientists and research workers in the field of communication processes started yet in the middle of the century to attempt abolishing empirically the ideas about the media domination, about the subjected to media human consciousness, about the media as instruments of violation, of „generating thoughts” or at least of inciting to violence. People pay serious attention to media, but when they do not feel satisfied it is not an problem to get isolated from media. What are the opportunities, and also – what are the limitations before the power of media – this is the basic problem to discuss when analyzing the role of media in the contemporary society. The answer to this question logically calls the need to divide the text in some parts. 1. It is necessary to trace the historical development of the interrelationship between media and power in Bulgaria, so that to estimate adequately the contemporary condition of the link between the political power and the media, as well as the real importance and role in the Bulgarian media. 2. It is necessary to analyze and evaluate a number of facts that predispose the interrelationship between power and media, as well as the power of media themselves. These are factors connected with the economy, the historical development and the recent historical events in particular, etc. Thus focusing upon the media, their significant role in the contemporary political processes in Bulgaria, the text suggests also а more global view with the intention to ground and defend the tendencies and perspectives of development in the Bulgarian media nowadays.
