Summary/Abstract: The starting point of the study is the analysis of measuring of quality of life with an emphasis on theoretical backgrounds. Based on discovered consensus in published overviews there where 5 criteria established for considering the theoretical concepts of quality of life: 1) the multidimensionality of the concept, 2) consensus on the fundamental structure of the fields of quality of life, 3) subjective perspective of the evaluation, 4) avoiding the confusion with neighbour concepts, 5) the emphasise on measuring. Different approaches to the theoretical conception of the quality of life organized in the Veenhoven’s (2000) model of four qualities of life were confronted with defined criteria. Suitable areas of the quality of life definition were taken as a basis for the theoretical model, which presents possible starting point for the construction of measuring tool of subjectively evaluated quality of life. The proposal of the theoretical model proceeds from discrepancy theory of quality of life, it respects the consensus in the discourse about the given issue and it avoids to undesirable confusion between used terms that are frequently interchanged with the quality of life.
