The Bow Glittering among the Clouds

Summary/Abstract: In the stories of religions and mythologies we often find elements or objects (ladder, column, tree, ray of moonlight or sunlight), which mediate between heaven and earth. The rainbow known from the Bible's Noah story is not one of these, and the Hebrew meaning of the word originally is perhaps not even rainbow, but bow. The study deals with the philosophical consequences of the latter meaning of the word, and also indicates the cause why the meaning "rainbow" became exclusive in the Christian tradition.
