Summary/Abstract: The American Progressivism, which has been conspicuously present in the ideological and theoretical debates, as well as in the American practice at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, is undoubtedly represented by a specific series of approaches designed for the large-scale American political and public life in a period whose major characteristic is the boom of industrialism. Thus, the rapid and unprecedented economic and technological transformations have required the effort of a significant proportion of American intellectuals to rationalise the above-mentioned progress, so that the result reflect i) an ideatic innovation in political philosophy and ii) an on-the-spot adaptation of politics to the ethos of the times. The reflection on the theoretical assumptions of progressivism is possible from an analytic point of view, while the ideatic conversion to political acts proper would be the object of reflection for pragmatics. The aim of the present study is that of reconstructing the political doctrine of American progressivism putting forwards suggestions both for the analytics and pragmatics of American progressivism.
