Summary/Abstract: After giving a short history of the Northern Turkish district Şebinkarahisar within the province Giresun and a description of the phenomenon of religious visits, this essay tells about sacred places and visiting costumes in the district. People use some terms such as father, grandfather, shaikh, saint, sacred dead etc. to relate the visiting place “türbe” (tomb, sanctuary). They go to those places to beg for their wishes, usually for recovering from material and spiritual diseases. People believe they can be in direct contact with the ‘sacred’ in those places.
