Summary/Abstract: Eliade-Pettazzoni or the History of an Apprenticeship. The present paper deals with the relationship between two outstanding representatives of the history of religion of the 20th century, Rafaelle Pettazzoni and Mircea Eliade. It focuses upon their correspondence with all its dynamism and the way in which they influenced each other. Eliade’s apprenticeship, Eliade being younger than the Italian scholar, will become, little by little, a relation of mutual respect, specific for the great spirits. It also gives attention to the methodological distinction and to the different ways followed when facing the manifestation of the religious phenomenon.
