Summary/Abstract: Economic competitiveness is one of the main economic categories. This category passes over externalities, accompanying the production of market (commercial) goods, which are, however, important for social welfare. Taking into consideration these externalities in the analysis of competitiveness leads to the category of social competitiveness. In the case of agriculture, externalities are particularly important, because of significant dimensions of negative and positive ones. The kind of externalities depends on the model of agriculture (i.e. industrial or sustainable). The mechanism of the market economy contributes to the excessive production of negative externalities and shortage of positive externalities, in relation to social needs. Referring to this problem, it is advisable to initiate a political factor to reduce disparities between economic and social competitiveness, which lead to economic and social optimum.
