The Author of Literary Work as the Discovery and the Mistake

Summary/Abstract: During the 20th century the thinking about literature has changed because the approach to literary text has become scientific. This kind of process has created a lot of problems in the question of the autorship. This study focus on the change of the author’s role based on the main literary thinkers in Czech science, from the romantic period to the 20th century. This essay compares the approach of a personal critic (V. Černý) and thereafter the most influential members of Czech structuralism. It shows their concepts about the author and the modification of the term “artistic personality”, mostly in the works of J. Mukařovský and M. Červenka.
