Summary/Abstract: This paper investigates the effect of over-urbanization on different measures of air pollution in a diverse sample of developed and developing countries. The main finding is that over-urbanization increases greenhouse gas emissions, measured by CO2, NOx and SO2 emissions per capita. This effect is robust to controlling for various antecedents of air pollution. Our findings provide a contribution to the ongoing debate over the role of urbanization in environmental changes.
