Summary/Abstract: Offering a bird’s-eye-view upon the translation problems and difficulties occurring in the case of Romanian folk tales is of utmost importance for the cross-cultural exchange between such different languages, each of them with its beauty and uniqueness. The translation process reveals interesting issues regarding: proper names; beginning, middle and ending formulas; phrases and idioms; regionalisms; euphemisms; interjections; rhetorical questions and exclamatory sentences; irony and mockery; nicknames; proverbs and sayings. All these aspects are worth highlighting in order to preserve cultural and linguistic identity in translation.
