Summary/Abstract: The Burning Bush from the Antim monastery proposed to rediscover orthodoxy in „its most profound, most signifi cant and, perhaps, its most original dimension, the mystic of hesychasm, and to transform it into the main form of personal and public devotion within a faith that enlightened all their literary, artistic or scientifi c experiences and which, in turn, was enlightened by these”. (Şerban Mironescu) Antim’s spiritual inheritance materialized, fi rst of all, into the practice and transmission of the Prayer of the Heart. The personalities which were shaped by the experience of the Burning Bush or by the connection to the Antim monastery were spiritual fathers (Daniil from Rarău, Benedict Ghiuş, Sofi an Boghiu, Adrian Făgeţeanu, Arsenie Papacioc), theologians (Dumitru Stăniloae), intellectuals (Alexandru Mironescu, Vasile Voiculescu) or young students (Roman Braga, Nicolae Bordaşiu, André Scrima, Mihai Rădulescu, Antonie Plămădeală). As a result of the living practice of the Jesus Prayer, some of the fathers developed a theology of „presence”. The paper proposes to analyse the idea of presence and the mystic of the Jesus prayer within the writings of the Burning Bush participants. The unceasing prayer was the center of their preoccupations and became inseparable to their life in Christ. The purpose of the research is not only the analysis of the writings/ spiritual inheritance of the intellectuals and fathers of the Burning Bush, but also evaluating the theology of presence and the unceasing prayer as stages of spiritual preparation towards mission.
