Summary/Abstract: Father Alexander Schmemann (1921-1983) is one of the most known liturgists of the 20th century, a theologian that all his life was concerned about a true and correct perception of the Eucharist in its fullness, content and essence. Disputed by some and hailed by the others, Father Schmemann will remain alive in the consciousness of the Church through his writings and ideas, his thoughts being more than helpful for Christians today, and beyond. His vision of understanding the sacrament of the Eucharist is original and bold at the same time. Of the many aspects raised on the Divine Eucharist, the presentation hereby embraces those related to its perception in the early Church, symbolism, cosmic character, ecclesiological and eschatological sacrament of the Eucharist, aspects which I have presented from both author’s perspective and from a critical point of view.
