Summary/Abstract: Genuine Orthodox theology needs to serve as a continuation of the rich patristic tradition of the early Church; throughout its teachings, Orthodoxy seeks spiritual growth for its believers on the path of perfection in Jesus Christ, which is only possible through total renunciation to passions and by the acquisition and cultivation of virtues in order to experience absolute communion with Christ. It is widely known in Orthodoxy that a believer cannot earn his or her subjective salvation without personal contribution and labor. The entire human being needs to cooperate and act as a whole towards achieving the goal of perfection, so that the human will be set on the path to God, under the guidance of the Holy Grace through the full and invisible union with the person of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
