Summary/Abstract: The essay is about to present some of the major topics on Christianity in the political theory of Hannah Arendt. Theoretical and historical origins of totalitarism have always been presented in a broad context, just as well its intrinsic relation with the modern perspectives towards the realm of human affairs. Arendt was from the very beginning sensitive to the impact of Christianity, as it is present in her early work, Love and Augustine. In The Human Condition some of the major Christian concepts are analyzed, in this essay forgiving and promise are presented, as those innovations in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, which served as ground for the elementary human capacity of beginning new stories. The crises of Christianity in this perspective is closely connected to the experience of totalitarism, since crimes committed during the Nazi era cannot be forgiven, therefore the possibility of trust in promise is also at stake. Moreover, in a historic perspective, the political role of Christian Church is challenged, as presented in another work, Men in Dark Times.
