Summary/Abstract: The article concentrates on haiku – traditional form of Japanese poetry, which appeared in the novel ‘Almaznaya kolesnitsa’ by Boris Akunin and in its Polish translation by Jan Gondowicz. The article outlines lexical and stilystic differences between phrases of original text and its translation. Sentence structure, context, genre, and graphic forms of Japanese poetry may create additional difficulties in translating haiku into other languages.
