"She and I". Biological sex and gender in translation...

Summary/Abstract: The following problems related to the translator’s presence in the text are discussed in this article: the way cultural transition is made (is translated) and a possible influence of translator’s personality (although in most cases subconscious) on the text and on the further reception of the text by the reader. Having analyzed a few fragments of her own translation, the author tries to investigate how much her work is marked with her own sex, gender, views and emotions. The author comes to the conclusion that all her linguistic choices, as a consequence of all the aspects mentioned above, prove that her work is determined by her visions of the world and subconsciously some parts of it become ideological. That leads the author to the conclusion that, despite the fact, it is rather impossible to specify the sex of the translation, the sex of the translator and all the features associated with it can make the translation a gender-determined text.
