Summary/Abstract: For the last two centuries Romanian national pedagogy has privileged the rediscovery of the past in the book pages. There, in the books, scientific authority, legitimated by professorships and university chairs and managing positions in cultural institutions more and present in the public space, seemed indestructible and was associated to the official discourse. An autobiographic literature started to gradually find its outlined, too silent and too shy to challenge teaching perspectives. Travel memoir literature, diaries, correspondence, memories offered a glimpse into a parallel message of the author’s emotions, shyness, at times of too many doubts and sadness. Such descriptions should not be classified as falsification or amateurish interpretations of history. They open up as a surprise of verisimilitude where the historian’s interest had classified the testimony as uninteresting; they have contributed to an enriched perception of the predecessors.
