Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the figure of the slave hunter, typical of the “Antillean society” (Céspedes del Castillo) of the first two decades of the 16th century. it starts from the social historical analysis of this figure, which has left traces in a crucial text of the Crónicas de Indias, Bernal Díaz del Castillo’s True History of the Conquest of New Spain (1552-1584). The faction story of Díaz del Castillo plays an important role in the genesis of the early modern prose and the birth of the novel. The power-minded uses of the otherness, which appear in The True History, makes it possible to develop the metaphor of the slave hunting as a model of orientation in the space of other- ness. Understanding the other is shown to be genealogically immersed in the hunting of human bodies and souls.
