Summary/Abstract: One of the basic Lithuanian educational system priorities is the development of pupils’ creativity. This article will discuss peculiarities of creativity of junior children in the context of education. The purpose of the research is to explore academic features and the connection between creativity and academic achievement of younger pupils. The participants were 9-10 years old children from Vilnius elementary school (3th and 4th grade) (N = 75). We used the assignments of creative thinking (TTCT) by E.P. Torrance (1974), visual (nonverbal) form. The conclusions were that (1) there is a weak positive correlation between elaboration parameter of creative thinking and academic achievement in Native Language (r = 0.346, p = 0.002) and Mathematics (r = 0.247, p = 0.032); and (2) there is no statistically significant difference between boys and girls (p>0.05) concerning the parameters of creative thinking.
