Summary/Abstract: Our paper deals with some polyphonic markers that may acquire a polemic value such as: speech verbs (dire, affirmer, prétendre, prétexter), polemic conditionals (epistemic and exclamative conditionals), connectives (puisque, parce que), interrogative utterances (Pourquoi + Cond.?, P, peut-être ?, Parce que P ?). All these polemic markers enable the speaker to introduce other voices into his/her discourse conveying points of view that he/she dissociates himself/herself from or may even contest. The speaker may also contest a speech act or an illocutionary act. His/her opposed attitude may vary, taking different forms such as surprise, irony, objection, indignation.
