Summary/Abstract: The scientists have constantly been studying Russian dialectology. In comparison with the literary language, where the selection of linguistic means for the speaker is determined by the prescriptive norms, Russian subdialects represent the system of language coexistent variants, each of which has specific dialect peculiarities as well as the norms common for the Russian language. During the last decade the scientists have constantly been studying the problem of a linguistic personality (Lutikova V. D., Ivantsova E. V.). The questions, which are devoted to the collective linguistic personality, have not been studied in Russian dialectology yet. As a component of the term “collective linguistic personality” a concept “collective linguistic personality of a dialect represantive” can be used. It is formed in natural conditions in the certain geographical area, its language exists in the oral non-codified form and appears in the common speech. It is well-known, that every subdialect is characterized by traditionally formed linguistic features, by some specific forms at different language levels. J.N. Karaulov believes, that at present a lot of linguistic personality’s characteristics and qualities demand a detailed discussion including the whole dialect language. This article presents the collective linguistic personality of a dialect representative of one of the South Russian areals in terms of its dialect phonetics. The collective linguistic personality is a group, which represents characteristic features of the language in general including specific speech peculiarities of the individual as well. It seems, the auditory analysis of the dialect continuum allows to characterize phonetic features of the Elets dialects of the collective linguistic personality including the regional vocalism and consonantism. The authors present the fragments of dialect texts, which show the unstressed vocalism after the soft consonants. This feature is a diagnostic feature of the South Russian dialects. The specific features of the Elets consonantism are also described in the article. The authors define the variation of pronunciation as an important characteristic feature of the modern Russian dialects.
