Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the concept of species-essence in its relation to the concept of global civilization. We distinguish two forms of modern ideology (Marxist and liberal-capitalist) and concentrate on the Marxist idea of species-essence as the basis of the universalist pretensions of Marxism. The work presents an attempt to review the problem of rational explanation of integral human community in the context of Kant’s philosophy and the philosophy of Renaissance humanism. We see the roots of the crisis of the modern universalist ideology in the utopian view of the Enlightenment on human nature, which is based on the rationalistic reduction. In our opinion, a disregard for the cultural, the local, and the historical, as well as the neglect of cultural peculiarities and the preference for the abstract ideas about human being and society are the main causes of the crisis of modern ideology, both in its Marxist and liberal-capitalist versions.
