Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the history of women’s suffrage in Bulgaria, its main forces, actors and achievements in the 19th and early 20th centuries presented against the broader institutional, political, social and cultural factors which played a role in shaping the process of modernization and women’s emancipation. The text is part of a wider historical project dedicated to the role of women and gender relations in modern Bulgarian culture.
