A pro-Atlantic European: Poland and the European Union’s Security and Defence Policy

Summary/Abstract: The article traces the evolution of the Polish position on the European Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), from the pre-accession period to the run-up to Poland’s presidency of the EU Council in 2011. Back in 2009, a strengthening of CSDP was proclaimed to be among the Polish presidency’s priorities. The article discusses factors behind a radical turn in Poland’s approach to the CSDP and analyses the development of the Polish concept of that policy’s reform.
