Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the experiences of Jewish survivors in Eastern Galicia in the immediate aftermath of the Holocaust. Based on diaries, postwar testimonies and memoirs of Jewish men and women who had come out of hiding following the arrival of the Soviet Army, it addresses the issue of continuity and rupture. It places particular emphasis on the degree to which survivors again became inhabitants of ghost towns which had witnessed genocide and communal massacre during the German occupation.
