Summary/Abstract: The proclamation of the Republic of Moldova’s independence triggered the democratization process, the transition to the market economy and the formation of a state based on the rule of law, in which the rights of all citizens should be protected. These tasks are clearly set in almost all the political and juridical acts of the initial period of independent statehood creation. However, the subsequent evolution of the events revealed the dependence on the security risks and threats, these being one of the main factors which prevent the successful accomplishment of the above-mentioned tasks. European integration aspirations are based on the European vocation determined by the geographical, historical position, by the traditions and culture of the Republic of Moldova. On the other hand, Moldova’s integration into the European Union is an indispensible condition for the stability, prosperity and security of the Republic of Moldova and of its citizens.
