Summary/Abstract: There are twenty six documents from the reign of Constantin Brâncoveanu in the remarkable Romanian collection held by the Athonite monastery of Simonopetra. The commemoration of four centuries from the tragic end of the Wallachian lord, who was martyred together with his sons and his son in law and adviser, Ianache Vǎcǎrescu, stirred a new interest in Brâncoveanu’s life and reign. By editing the Simonopetra documents, this study aims to shed new lights on the Wallachian society during Brâncoveanu’s reign. Nine of these documents had been issued by the lord chancery, while the rest of them are selling documents, judicial testimonies and written curses. The patrimony of the Mihai Vodǎ monastery from Bucharest is particularly well represented in this collection.
