Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the strategies for the preservation of the national identity in Polish families of Ukrainian provinces of the Russian Empire at the end XIX and beginning of the 20th centuries. Basis for analysis of the many narrative sources, memoirs, written by natives of the region, which helped to illuminate the private life. The social life of Poles had been harassed, that led to the strengthening of family values, a close circle of relatives and friends. The family was responsible for the preservation of the national identity. Examine ways to support the family, the role of women in this process is the goal of the study. The article describes the main methods to support the national identity is the preservation of the language and its use of live, respect for the religious and moral values, traditions. Politics and played an important role in support of national culture-dissemination of national literature and the Polish underground, amateur music and theater.
